While at the 2013 True/False documentary festival with Bending Steel, I had the pleasure of doing a few audience Q&A’s with award winning director Alison Klayman (Ai Weiwei, Never Sorry) as moderator. It was a great experience, and we stayed in touch after the festival. When Alison was presented with the opportunity to make this film for the New York Times Op-Docs series, she reached out to me to photograph it. New York is regarded as a gay-friendly city in a state that has legalized gay marriage, but as An Attack on Equality shows, it can still be dangerous for a same-sex couple to walk down the street holding hands.
